Eligibility requirements

18-29 years old
High school graduate or GED
Low to moderate income
U.S. citizenship, permanent resident, DACA recipient, or employment authorization card
Live within commuting distance of a Year Up United location. Although Year Up United has shifted to a hybrid program model, you must be able to regularly attend in-person days throughout the duration of the program
Available five days a week (M-F) for the entire duration of the program
Highly motivated to learn new technical and professional skills
Have not obtained a Bachelor’s degree

Hybrid program reminder:

Year Up United has shifted to a hybrid program model, combining in-person and virtual learning opportunities for students and interns. However, to be eligible for Career Pathways you must be within commuting distance to the physical location you are applying for the duration of the program.

Sign up for an info session

Starting your Year Up journey can bring up a lot of questions, but we’re here to help! Attending an in-person or virtual info session can teach you about student benefits, demystify the phases of the program, and answer any lingering questions. Check out our calendar, and sign up for an event in your market.

How to apply

Below are the basic steps for applying. The application process may vary slightly in your area—but don’t worry, we’re always here to help you along the way!

1. Complete your application

Click the "Apply" button anywhere on the website, then follow the prompted steps to get started. You'll create a student portal account and gain access to information sessions, staff support, and your application form - it takes less than 20 minutes to complete!

2. Attend your interview

We want to hear about you! Knowing our students is the first step in giving them the best training possible. Interviews are currently being held virtually.

3. View your decision letter

We will notify you once your acceptance status has changed via email. You’ll sign your decision letter in your portal account.

4. Complete your onboarding

Complete program pre-work, an academic assessment, and college program materials (note: this is only necessary if you're applying to a college-based Year Up United program). You will submit supporting documents including proof of high school diploma or GED, proof of ability to work in the U.S. (we welcome DACA), references, and true screen background check.

5. Begin your Year Up United journey

Once accepted, you’ll begin your journey of learning valuable technical and professional job skills. You can look forward to a supportive community of peers and staff, career training in both personal and professional skills, courses eligible for college credit, stipend payments, access to internship opportunities, a professional mentor, and our ongoing support throughout the duration of the program and beyond.
